Oliver is self-taught in portrait painting with oils, though the drawing education he received in Florence has greatly informed his practice in commissioned work.

My Father and Dementia
These were the first portraits Oliver ever made in oil paint. They come from 2014 when Oliver had returned from Florence, to help care for his father who suffered from vascular dementia.
